Easingwold is set to welcome a new Aldi store and petrol filling station as part of a wider development on York Road.
Jomast Developments is advancing plans for a high-quality food store and petrol filling station on land at York Road, Easingwold.
Outline planning permission was granted on 13 December 2023 by the former Hambleton District Council for a mixed-use development comprising a food store, petrol filling station, 45 apartments, 121 dwellings, 60-bed care home, medical facilities, and the creation of green walking routes, public open space and play areas.
The proposed Aldi store and petrol filling station will form the first phase of the development, with a separate reserved matters application planned for 2026 to cover the proposed housing, care home, and medical facilities.
Aldi, the award-winning food retailer, will occupy the first phase alongside an independent fuel and convenience retailer. The proposals aim to improve local retail choice, offering residents more convenient access to high-quality food shopping, reducing travel times, and helping keep spending within the local community.
The plans for Easingwold will deliver:
• An investment of over £10million
• A brand new, Aldi food store with a net sales area of 1,228 sqm
• 120 car parking spaces, including 6 accessible parking spaces and 7 parent & child spaces
• 10 electric vehicle charging points, with infrastructure in place to expand in future
• Up to 50 new, full-time equivalent jobs for local people
• Additional employment opportunities during construction and within the supply chain
• Attractive landscaping to enhance the site’s appearance
Jomast Developments, in partnership with Aldi and the independent fuel retailer, is committed to engaging with the local community. A consultation leaflet has been delivered to over 500 properties in the local area to provide details of the proposal, whilst the appointed Planning Consultant, Saddington Taylor, hosted an online consultation.
Adam Hearld, Development Director at Jomast Developments, said: "We’re thrilled to bring forward plans for a new Aldi store and petrol filling station on York Road, Easingwold, which form an exciting first phase of a wider development. We encourage local residents to explore our virtual consultation, share their thoughts, and help shape a project that will bring new jobs, investment, and convenient shopping to the community."
Jomast Developments is aiming to submit an application to North Yorkshire Council later this year, following its community consultation process.
