Jobs to be created as new central Middlesbrough hotel is approved
Jomast has announced that it is to further develop central Middlesbrough with the addition of a new Premier Inn hotel.
The hotel, which will start to be built in early 2017, will be located on the car park alongside the existing Jurys Inn hotel and Unite buildings – heralding a new phase of regeneration in the town and bringing a number of hospitality jobs to the area.
The ground floor of the new building will consist of the reception area, a restaurant and bar and a number of bedrooms. The remaining floors will each have a similar layout of 16 bedrooms each, with a total of 83-rooms in the building.
The development of the new hotel is the first exciting step towards what will ultimately be a bigger regeneration project of the Gurney Street Triangle.
Collectively the scheme could create more than 300 jobs in the Tees Valley throughout both the construction and operation of the development.
Adam Hearld, Development Director at Jomast Developments, spoke about the project, saying “The project will have a significant impact in transforming the existing area, benefiting it both architecturally and economically with the addition of hundreds of jobs to local people.”
The news follows a string of successful regeneration projects in 2016 from Jomast in Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas, including the popular Bedford Street and Queens Square area of the town.
